Back to Basic ~ Day Master

The Day Master in Bazi is the chore value of your-self. While the strength of each element in Bazi is governed by the seasons of birth, the Day Master governs the relationship and effect of other elements that come in contact with your Day Master.

Basically there are five elements in Bazi study that are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Each of these elements is further divided to yin and yang polarity. Therefore there are 10 types of Day Master all together.

The characteristic of each of elements are:

Wood Element

Yang Wood ~ JiaJia Wood
Jia Wood person appears to be straight forward, stubborn and inflexible like a tree growing slowly and surely straight upward to reach the sunlight while the root is firmly rooted on the ground growing downwards to reach for water and nourishment in the earth. Therefore, Jia Wood people have strong will power. In the face of adversity they will not give up easily. They are also people who will develop and plan their action carefully moving toward their goal.

Yin Wood ~ YiYi Wood
Yi Wood also growth upwards to reach for the sun but they depend on other people to reach the top like creepers that curl around the tree to reach upwards for the sunlight. They appear flexible like the small plants tend to sway with the winds but they are also stubborn though not many people may know it like the Jia Wood they are also rooted to the earth for water and nourishment. Due to this reason, Yi wood people are more adaptable and shrewd in their dealing. At times they may look fickle minded but they do know clearly what they want as surely as all the wood are growing up towards the sunlight. Of all the Day Master, they make a good CEO and formidable enemy.

Both Jia and Yi Wood are generally good at networking skills.

Fire Element

Yang Fire ~ BingBing Fire
Bing Fire people are generous, vivacious and passionate like the sun that shines through every corner of the earth. They are people who have no hidden agenda and do not hold grudges. They are upright and noble in their action. At times, they can be proud and self-center like the sun ~ everything are center around it. Sometimes, this characteristic can grates on people.

Yin Fire ~ DingDing Fire
Ding Fire is a soft and calm illuminating, and warmth fire in the dark. Ding Fire people are natural leader who can motive those around him. They are also meticulous and detail oriented. Due to their helpful nature, they can easily depress and de-motivated as they light the way for others and forget about themselves thus burn itself out.

Earth Element

Wu Earth people are simple and down to earth people. Like the mountain they are solid, immovable and unwavering on their stance. Thus, they make are trustworthy, loyal and dependable friends. As a person they also appear to be quiet, prefer their own solitude and can be stubborn as hell when they have made their decision.

Yin Earth ~JiJi Earth
Ji Earth is soft soil that nourishes everything on earth. Thus, they have a very nurturing, tolerant, productive and resourceful nature. They are more understanding of others weakness compares to Wu Earth. They are also more flexible and greedier.

Both Earth people can be secretive due to earth ability to hide many things inside. This is why earth people can be a confidant.

Yang Metal ~ Geng
Geng MetalGeng Metal is the metal of swords and axes. As a person, they are tough and unyielding thus they are able to endure hardship. They are sharp, determined, straightforward, strong-willed and do not admit to failure easily. They also have strong sense of justice and fairness.

Both the Ren Water and Wu Earth contain thousands of things therefore the ability to amass a lot of wealth. However, Wu Earth is less steadfast in grabbing opportunities and taking action compares to Ren Water.

Ren Water's wealth element is represents by Bing Fire which means the amount is limitless. Imagine the sunlight that shine through every corner of the earth, as a source of life to the woods and plants, and bring up the spark in the Xin Metal and together with Ding Fire forge the Geng Metal. It is like a Midas touch that turns everything into gold.

Wu Earth's wealth element is the Ren Water that hides and contains thousands of things in them. Like the Ocean that particularly covers two third of the planet earth, its amount is tremendous.

Xin Metal has the ability to snap and cut its wealth element easily that is Yi Wood which means they acquire wealth easily. Thus they are able to acquire wealth much faster than any other Day Master. In addition, Yi Wood has the ability to use other to attain their goal, thus the power of leverages a.k.a. borrow money.

Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow – A Banking Thoroughbred

Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Teh Hong Piow, Chairman of Public Bank in Malaysia, was born in Singapore on 14 March 1930. He was listed No.4 in Malaysia's 40 Riches People by Forbes with a net worth of US$3.5 billion at age 78 in 2008. Below is Tan Sri Teh's Bazi Chart.

Tan Sri Teh Hong Piow's Bazi Chart

Tan Sri Teh was not born in a privilege family. His family was very traditional and conservative. His father was a strict disciplinarian. All this was indicated in the Luck Pillar of Geng Chen. Chen contains the main Qi of Wu Earth which is the Officer Star of Gui Water Day Master. Also sitting in his Father Palace is the Seven Killing Star.

At the age of 6, Tan Sri Teh's mother passed away indicated by the harm Chen Dragon in the Luck Pillar harming the Mao Rabbit in the Month Branch.

Unable to afford schooling, he only studied up to Cambridge Overseas School Certificate and started working at a very young age.

He joined OCBC in 1950 as a clerk at the age of 20 in Luck Pillar of Xin Si. The metal element which represents the banking industry is his favourable element. Later on he joined Malayan Banking which was also in the metal industry. During this period incubation in Malayan Banking supplied the learning curve he needed to start his own bank.

Tan Sri Teh, a Gui Water Day Master person, is born in spring. To make his Bazi chart balance, the element of wood and earth is needed. These two elements are exactly located in the Month Pillar in his Bazi chart. The element which makes the Bazi chart balance is called useful god.

In the year 1966 which was on the Luck Pillar of Gui Wei, that he made the break. He used the gain from a property deal as capital to start his own bank. In this case, the Wei Goat which contains the earth element is the useful god for him. The earth element represents the property deal which was the seed capital of his success.

Again the Wei Goat formed a combo with the Mao Rabbit and Hai Pig in his chart that produced the wood element, his second useful god. When you have the three combo formation it usually represents networking or partnership. It at this point that he decided to strike out on his own taking ten of the Malayan Banking staff as his first team to start Public Bank. Public Bank commenced business on the 6 August 1966. Public Bank was so named as a bank for "for the people". This aptly showed the Hai-Mao-Wei combo. At this point, by doing the right thing at the right time and right place, Tan Sri Teh has embarked through a journey of success.

Doing the right thing – Using the gain to start his owns bank. (Action-Man Luck)

At the right timing – Striking out in the Luck Pillar of Gui Wei where his useful god of wood and earth was present at the same time giving him added synergy for success. It was also a high priority of that time to develop Malaysian oriented bank by Bank Negara and Malaysian Government.(Timing – Heaven Luck)

At the right place – Banking industry which is a favourable element to him. (Place – Earth Luck)

It is the work of the Trinity Luck of Heaven, Man and Earth.

Tan Sri Teh Now & Then

A look at the picture of now and then show that Tan Sri Teh has grown from a cheeky good looking boy (though not in term of Chinese Miang Xiang wise) to a prosperous and noble looking man.

Fast forward to present, Public Bank is a household name in Malaysia. The bank is rated as the strongest bank in Malaysia by Asia Money. An "Ordinary man" created an "Extraordinary Bank", Tan Sri Teh is a "Living Legend". He is a true self-made billionaire.

What business are you in Bazi wise?

In today world, there are many new fields or industries emerged that are very different from the olden days of my grandma and grandpa or even my mom and dad time. It is not as clear-cut as it used to be where the element of a field is easily recognised. For example, a smelter is easily classified into the metal and fire elements while the barber or more commonly known now as hairstylist, is working in elements of wood and metal. Compare it back to ancient China history, the hairstylist job does not even exist. People then are not allowed to cut, trim or shave their body hairs. In the Confucius teaching, it was disrespect to the parents to remove even a strand of hair from your body.

Today, it would seem difficult to classify some of these new industries or field of works into the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Things are more complex now.

So are Bazi out-dated? Will it be able to help you find the right career in this constant evolving world of today?

Of course, I will say YES! If not then a lot of Chinese Metaphysics consultant will be out of job. ^_^ LOL J

You just need to refine your thinking and keep yourself inform and keep-up with the ever changing world. This sound tough, isn't it? You have to know a lot of things if not everything but not to worry you do not have to be the expert in them. Well you just have to know enough that help you to make the analysis. Now you out there, do know why it is not an easy job being a Bazi consultant. It involves a lot of brain-works. You do not have any text books or reference books to refer to that will tell you point-blank that this is equivalent to this or that. It all depends on the consultant knowledge and experience in interpretation. This explains why a lot people prefer an older consultant as the added ages hopefully correspond with his years of experience. You never know, he may just join the industry recently. (No offense intended) Its also explain why to be a Bazi or Feng Shui consultant, you need the Indirect Resource Star in your Bazi chart because there isn't any DIRECT way of getting answers or information. Even if you dig out all the classical text it will not give you a direct answer. You still need to do your own interpretation. So creative thinking is important. That is why some times you may meet one of the nutty and superstitious consultants out there because they are overdose with creative thinking.

The Business of Stem Cell

Basically the field of medicine is broadly classified under the metal element for the Western medication while the Chinese medication is of wood element.

In recent years, there are break through of science and medical industry in using stem cell to cure diseases like foot ulcers, heart-disease, blood-disorder and also to treat cancer. The possibility of stem cell curing more sickness and incurable diseases in the future seems boundless with today scientific research with the help of biotechnology. What more! It has been recently announced that researcher has been successfully using stem cells to treat AIDS.

It first comes through our shore, brought in by StemLife Berhad.

What are stem cells? Briefly, stem cells refer to the body's "master" cells because they create all other tissues, organs and systems in the body.

Stem Cells
The stem cells found in cord blood are the building blocks of your blood and immune system and most readily reproduce into:

Red Blood Cells - which carry oxygen to all the cells in the body.

White Blood Cells – which fight infection.

Platelets – which aid in clotting in the event of injury.

Stem cells are most readily found in cord blood, peripheral blood and bone marrow in our body. While the adult stem cells can be found in brain, bone marrow, peripheral blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscle, skin and liver.

With this knowledge, a new business is evolved. The business of stem cell or to be more precise the stem cell bank. The business involved the collection, processing, and the most important the storage of stem cells.

So how do you classify this business in Bazi term?

To classified the stem cell business in one of the 60 Jia Zi (Pillar), lets take a closer look into the business. Since the business involved storage of stem cell, it will not run away from the Four Graveyards that are Chen Dragon, Wei Goat, Xu Dog and Chou Ox which is of earth element. The Four Graveyard store excess Qi. Beside when you sell a trust, you are considered in the earth business. Selling stem cell is a business that involved trust. People believe or trust that they are able to use the stem cell in the future where the need arises. It is like insurance and protection to a better health in the future.

So which Branches best represent the stem cell business and how about the element on Heavenly Stems?

The storage of stem cell requires it to be cool to low sub-zero temperatures where the stem cell at this environment is preserved in good condition. The stem cell should be kept in a dormant stage. Out of the Four Graveyards branches the Xu Dog and the Chou Ox are in the seasons where the weather is cool that are autumn and winter respectively. The Chen Dragon is in the spring season. At this environment most of the living organisms are at their most active growing stage. This condition is not suitable for the stem cell to be kept in. The Wei Goat is in the summer seasons where the weather is hot which can easily kill the fragile stem cell. Thus these two Branches are eliminated as the possible pillar for the stem cell bank industry.

Four Graveyards Stem cell is collected from your bloodstream for storage and in Bazi, blood is represents by Xin Metal. The Xu Dog and Chou Ox contained the secondary qi of Xin Metal. However, the Xu Dog is the graveyard of Xin Metal while the Chou Ox is the storage of of Xin Metal. Hence, it is more suitable to to use Chou Ox as the branch for the pillar of stem cell banking industry. Apart from this, the Xu Dog branch is dry and hard which does not provide the proper condition for the stem cell. Ding Chou

In contrast the Chou Ox, contains the Gui Water and is at the end of winter which is moist but not too wet environment for a proper storage of stem cell. The Pillar need a little warm as the Chou Ox in winter season therefore the Heavenly Stem on the Pillar should sit the Ding Fire. The Ding Fire also represents hope as its gives light in the darkness. Since the main purpose for people to store stem cell is a hope that the stem cell may help them to cure diseases in the future.

So my conclusion for the Pillar of Stem Cell Bank business is Ding Chou.

Personality Plus In Bazi

There are many systems that analyze a person's personality, emotion or character out there. Personality Plus system is one of them.

Briefly explain "Personality Plus" is actually a book written by Florence Littauer. The book mainly talked about four key types of personality profile namely, Choleric, Melancholy, Sanguine and Phlegmatic. It is a generalized system of categorizing personality. Its also allow mixing of profile such as describing a person as Choleric Melancholy and not just Choleric or Melancholy.

The "Personality Plus" personality profiles:

Choleric: Commander-type. Conqueror. Choleric life-motto is "My Way". They are dominant, strong, decisive, stubborn and even arrogant. They focused on getting things done, but can run rough-shod over others.

Melancholy: Mental-type. Philosopher. Melancholy life-motto is "The Right Way". Their typical behaviour involves thinking, assessing, making lists, evaluating the positives and negatives, and general analysis of facts. They are highly talented, have brilliant ideas, although sometimes they can paralyze themselves with over-analysis. Lists and "doing things the right way" are characteristics of this personality type.

Sanguine: Social-type. Party-animal. Sanguine life-motto is "The Fun Way". They enjoy fun, socialising, chatting, telling stories - and are fond of promising the world, because that's the friendly thing to do. They get on well with people and can get others excited about issues, but cannot always be relied upon to get things done. They love interacting with others and very good at playing the role of entertainer. They have a tendency to over-promise and under-deliver.

Phlegmatic: Flat-type. Peace-maker. Phlegmatic life-motto is "The Easy Way". They are easy going, laid back, nonchalant, unexcitable and relaxed. They tend not to upset people, but their indifference may frustrate people. They try not to make decisions, and generally go for the status quo. They care about people and harmony.

While Bazi is a tool that allows us to delve into pass, current and future influence of our 'destiny' in areas of our life like friends and family, relationships, wealth, fame, career, studies, partnership, and business base on the calculation of our date of birth. Bazi helps us to understand ourselves better and thus maximize our potential by choosing the right career or taking necessary actions at the right time. With the knowledge of our luck cycles influences, it helps us to make informed decisions that will benefit us. It also tells us the influence of people around us whether they are helpful or impede our progress.

Although Bazi are mainly use to foretell a person destiny, it can also reveal a person personality and what's governing the person's emotion. It is important to understand certain facet of a person character as one's action or inaction is greatly influence by the person's personality. The type of action taken by the person is also influence by his emotion.

Personality in Bazi Chart

In Bazi, a person personality is governed by his Day Master with the main influence of the Month Branch and secondary influence of the Day Branch.

For example, the Bazi Chart shows the Person Day Master is Yi Wood born in the month of Zi Rat which is the Indirect Resource Star (Month Branch) while Yi Wood is sitting on Hai Pig, Direct Resource Star (Day Branch). Both the Month and Day Branches are Resource Star. If you look at the nature of Resource Star, this person has a big comfort zone. Usually they have a comfy life and easily contended, thus they dislike any disruption or major changes in their living environment. These very much correspond to the softer-side of Phlegmatic personality. Phlegmatic personality also hides an iron-will to succeed which may be lacking in Resource Star's natures.

Of course, the Day Master can also reveal many facets of a person's personality. For this Yi Wood person also show a flexible and adaptable personality which is reinforce by his Resource Stars.

However in this article, let make it simple thus I will compare it in term of Ten Gods. As every element in the Bazi chart will contributes to a person personality in a big way or in small dosage, thus it will be no-end to the personality analysis to cover everything at one goal.

Let look at the others "Ten Gods" personality profile.

Hurting Officer and Eating God are both output stars. Both represent a person talent and creativity. Hurting Officer tends to basked in limelight and talkative in nature. They are busybody, street smart and competitive individual. A very much Sanguine personality! While Eating God bespoke of inner-talent. They are intelligent, refine and culture. They are also sentimental, quite and gentle in nature. Careful in their thought and take time to do thing. They abhor competition. All in all they are a perfectionist. A true Melancholy nature indeed!

Direct Officer and Seven Killing are Influence Stars. They both have leadership quality. Direct Officer Personalities are law-abiding, co-operative, calculative, rational and responsible. They are also objective, righteous and stern as well as respect the norms of society. Hence Direct Officer has three combinations of personality profiles;

Phlegmatic: law-abiding, co-operative, objective, and respect the norms of society.

Choleric: strong, stern and leadership quality.

Melancholy: calculative, rational, righteous and responsible .

The Direct Officer most dominant personality is Phlegmatic follow by Choleric and with a small amount of influence of Melancholy's natures. Since Phlegmatic and Choleric is the exact opposite of two personalities, Direct Officer individual tends to be fickle-minded when making decision.

Seven Killing is a pure Choleric personality profile. They are intelligent, charismatic, robust and temperamental. Daring, bold, inspiring and determined when on the job. They are also brave and courageous but are an extremist, merciless and also a sore looser. They are really a pushy and nasty boss.

Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth are as the name implies the Wealth Stars. Both of them are hardworking individual in the pursuit of wealth. Direct Wealth personality tends to be straightforward, thrifty and calculative, doesn't like to 'rock the boat' or 'reinvent the wheel', reliable and also disliked gossip. They are also not flexible and can be boring at times. They may sometimes appear to have no-motivation in life. It is almost look like the Direct Officer combination of personality profiles again. However in this case, two combinations are dominant that is Phlegmatic-Melancholy with a small dose of Choleric natures. Here the Direct Wealth individual does not have the problems of being fickle-minded compare to Direct Officer's character.

Indirect Wealth has the combination of Sanguine and Choleric personality. They can sell a dream or an idea. They are multi-talented, risk-takers and have a good networking ability. They are also generous, energetic and sociable. One of their weakness is they tend to act fast and make hasty decision. All this show a Sanguine personality profile. However they are naturally aggressive and competitive, a site found in the Choleric personality profile.

Friend and Rob Wealth are both Companion Stars. Contrarily to the name, Companion Star, they are not sociable creatures though they may have many friends in life and a wide network. You can say they have more Phlegmatic natures as they can be easy going but lack the charm and intensity of a popular Sanguine. At the same time they are strong-willed and independent individual. They can be brash, passionate, honourable and brave. Domineering, self-center and stubborn at times, all this are characteristic of a Choleric profile. Again Phlegmatic and Choleric is a clash of personality. In this case, you may have an individual with dual personality. It seems to me that it is more difficult to classified the Companion Stars into the Personality Plus profile then the others "Ten Gods".

All the above analysis is base of on the information available through the Personality Plus course that I have attended. Matching the personality of "Ten Gods" to the Personality Plus system profile is also base on my opinion as well. As the Bazi cover a broader base of analysis of an individual, thus it may not be 100% accurate in describing a person nature but it suffice to reveal at least 70-80% of a person's natures. I do hope you will find it interesting to read and use it as a general guide to understand yourself while studying your Bazi chart.
